This incident took place in India. Now, much of India is dirt poor and I don't think they have the quality electrical systems that we (Americans) do. It seems likely that because of the poor circuitry that it caused a massive electrical spike that electrocuted him.

This. You're just as likely to be killed the same way watching TV if you're hooked up to such an unstable power grid.

In the first sentence, the witness is in the room with the victim when the accident occurs, but in the next sentence the witness is not in the room. Which is it?
