Hey guys, i just reformated my laptop's hd, and my buddies told me i should partion it to make it more efficient.. Its a 60 gig hd, and i was told to put 5 gigs for windows xp, and the remaining 55gigs for programs and data(ie mp3s and videos)

The main problem that just occured to me is that the 5 gig partion is not big enough for xp... After installing xp that left 3 gigs left, and then running the updates which took another gig, i was left with around 1.5 gigs left. Now this is a laptop, so to make it more efficent in booting up, i usally have it to "hibernate" when i turn off the comp, and that option alone takes another gig as well... right now i only have 250mb left .. so im thinking i might need to make the partion bigger cuz i still havent installed any of my programs yet...

Is there something i can do about this?/

Not very easily.
As it a system partion the best thing to do is..........

Repartion, Reformat, Reinstall.

Luck......... :D

ahh crap... thats wut ive been thinking i need to do...

n e ways.. could u guys give me examples of ur partion for xp?

im think for myself im gonna go: 8 gigs-windows xp(IS THAT ENOUGH?), 25 gigs programs, then 25 gig, other data....

Your usage and install base is going to dictate how the drive should be partitioned. I myself have a personal rule that I never put more than 2 partitions on one drive. If I had a 60 GB (which I do in one test system) I would make either a 30/30 split, or go with a 20/40 split.
