My sisiter dug out an old pc because she wants it for word processing and stuff for work at home. Its very old and is made by siemens nixdorf.

When I boot it it brings up this at the first screen:

Invalid System Configuration data - Run Configuration Utility.

WARNING: IRQ not configured - PCI on motherboard bus: 00, device: 07, fuction: 02

WARNING: IRQ not configured - PCI display controller on motherboard bus: 00, device: 08, fuction: 00

I havent got a clue what any of this means, and neither does my sister. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I dont know what the specs are but its has PCI graphics and ISA slots and a really small hard drive (2 or 3GB). Also a pentium 2 processor I think.
 
I replaced it with another abttery from identical pc, which got me the siemens logo on the screen. Then I got something about incorrect cmos values and it told me to enter set up, which I did. The only thing I changed was the hard drive settings. Upon reboot I was back to the error I had at the start.
 
You've got some really old machine there ...

You have to actually reserve the IRQ for each device that you have ... find documentations for the devices ... they will have default IRQ settings ...

example ...

modem ==> IRQ3
SoundBlaster ==> IRQ5

Make sure its putting out the correct voltage using a voltmeter. If the battery is rated for 1.5volts, it should be putting out 1.5 volts.

Reenter the setup and find an option that will reset defaults.
 
Is there anywhere i can get a list of what IRQ's should be assigned to which piece of hardware?

You don't configure IRQ's on PCI cards (they auto configure) and most cards can use several IRQs.
