what part are you considering making? Or do you simply mean putting all the parts together?

depends... like he said, are you planning to make the actual blocks and stuff, or just put together a bunch of premade stuff?

i'll assume the first.

it depends on how much experience you have, how much you are willing to put into tools for it, what access to special stuff you have, how much work you are willing to put into the project. i built my own stuff... built 4 blocks, used the best. currently on air til i get fans for the radiator/metal&dremel for making a shroud. it is a fun way to go (i got to play with a blowtorch:p) but it isn't easy... i worked on it for a few months before i had something useable. i'd say it was worth it (well, until i stopped using it to revise it) but it is a lot of work. i was just working on it after school, but still... long project.

i mean like welding and stuff all together. i have access to all the tools and what not

i spent ~$20 on silver solder paste at radio shack (it worked ok, but...) before i found a $5 tube at lowes that was a lot bigger and worked just as well (better even)

that and the torch (~$40 for a decent propane/mapp torch) are $45. add $20 for copper (don't actually need that much, but still... going high here), $20 for the heatercore ('87? bonneville w/ a/c), $15 for fans, $30 for pump, $20 for misc tubing/etc.

that's $110 if you do have a torch, $150 if you don't.

a decent kit based system would run you $150-$220 or so.

i'd go homemade, if only for the learning experience. once you factor in all the time, the kit is a better deal (most likely) but it is much more fun to make your own.
