I currently own the MSI 5900XT graphics card, its currently on stock cooling, but i was wondering what solution should i use if i wanted to obtain complete silence. I was considering the NV Silencer 3 from Arctic, but im not sure if it will be any quieter cause the stock cooling is rated at 28 dB. Any recommendations? I was also looking at the Zalman dual heatpipe one, but my top priority is absolute silence. ;)

This is virtually the last part i need to replace before i have a computer that generates any sound :eek: :) . Help choosing would be appericated.


<---'s experience has been good with the zalman (one piped) heatsink gpu cooler. Just not sure how nice the arctic one would be. If its aorund ~20dB (or only audiable if my ear is next to the comp) that would be excellent.

LoL, grab an NV silencer though, those things on "Low" are damn silent. I cant even hear mine with my head by my case. :p

Not a good idea?

Zalman 80D-HP, it WILL run on a 5900XT completely passive (you don't need the OP-1) if you have a fan lying around your house that will suffice if you point it in it's general direction
 
Also, the silencer sucks... I'll explain why...

1.) the nvsilencer has a handicap that cools both ram and core, ineffeciency++
2.) the zalman has the likelihood of performing better because of the fact that it's cooling is fully dependent on what type of fans you put on it, the nvsilencer is stuck with... what you bought it with.
3.) The zalman is fully dependent on the fans you put on it for silence, the nvsilencer is FAR from silent is actually loud enough to have driven me batty!
 
if the NV silencer is anything like that ATI silencer, then its DAMN quiet and you have dog -like ears! ;)

My hearing is actually not that great, I just have a very quiet room (only thing that makes noise is me and my HDD enclosure)

Even at the lowest revs you still hear that annoying fan running! God, do I hate that!
