making epoxy...safe?

Would making a thermal transfer epoxy out of standard heatsink compound and super glue work? (I'm OCing the video card in my #4 machine just for fun and want to add cooling without spending any money) I would spend money, but it's my number 4 machine (soon to be #5 because apple notebook is required for University) and I don't want to waste money on such a crappy old machine.

anyway... would it work?

(sorry if you've heard this one before)
 
Ive seen it work before, but try to find some way to use zip ties or something else instead of super glue w/ thermal paste to hold your hs down. Of course, you could just buy a $5 tube of AS Thermal Epxoy, but that would require spending actual money :p

It won't work very well with super glue, but should work if you use an actual epoxy adhesive with some thermal paste mixed in.

Seriously.... the regular thermal paste (Of quality) will be 4-8$ and the superglue(scary you are actually considering this...) would cost atleast 1$ after tax.... just get Artic Silver Epoxy and save your hardware and yourself the trouble.

you can do it, but the best way is to apply your thermal grease to the center of the chip and then on the very corners put a dot of glue. Don't mix them.

I already have standard thermal paste and super glue. Thus, no money would be spent.

Yep, that's what I did to my old northbridge back in the XP days. Just remember, once in place it's pretty permanent.
 
I did it. It didn't help too much. It did help 4 mhz on the core and 4mhz on the RAM though.

The card is an ATI Rage 2C PCI. The stock clock was 75/83. I now have it at 99/118. I ran some benchmarks and it has definately improved performance.
