.40 Thickness brake metal and seamed. Would this be strong enough? Or should I try a thicker metal?
 
What's 'seamed'? And how much weight do you plan to support?

Generally speaking, 0.40 inches is overkill by an order of magnitude.
 
That's pretty thin. I would be concerned if it were used for any kind of load bearing. As a "skin" it would do fine, but it would sound cheap if you rapped on the metal.
