Making an inline pump submersible

I've been checkin stuff out on these forums for a while (been over @ anandtech for a years now but this is my first post here) and let me just say some of the WC stuff I have seen you guys do is awesome!

I just set up my first WCing setup and I got an inline pump, however, I am thinking I would have done better w/ a submerged pump setup (i'd like to try a pelt water chiller) so...

Is there any reason an inline pump can't just be submerged and therefore become submersible?

Most of them are submersable. Actually, I haven't seen one yet that isn't.

You could always just make a res for your water chiller too.

Check the specs from the manufacturer. Almost all pumps are submersible but you want to be sure.

I personally wouldn't want a submerged pump. It will add a degree of heat to the water. I find mounting my pump near an exhaust fan at the bottom of the case removes any heated air it may be adding.
