Making AMD and Nvidia play nice

I decided to build a new PC and decided I wanted 5-6 monitors and unfortunately I'm favorable to Nvidia due to PhysX and Cuda(I also do video editing, 3d modeling, photoshop, and what not)

But because I'm going with more than 3 monitors I have to look at AMD for this solution...
I haven't decided on what card I will go with, as I'm still uncertain whether to wait for haswell-e and ddr4(I may still use ddr3 unless ddr4 isn't that expensive) or to go with 3 "LG34UM95" with a vesa mount and have them in portrait mode or go crazy and stick to 5.
But what I want to figure out is making amd work nice with nvidia as I can live without PhysX but Cuda is something that works better in most cases with 3d applications, not to say OpenCL is bad I just prefer Cuda.

I've heard Nvidia disables it's cards if a amd card is found, is that true? If so that's pretty crazy. As I think using amd and nvidia solves some problems, more importantly the 3 monitor surround limit, and also having the best of both worlds.

Embrace open standards, or pay through the nose to be locked into proprietary solutions that stifle competition in the marketplace. It's your choice.

Looks like you need to go Quadro if you want to connect that many displays in an NVIDIA configuration, and you would still need 3 cards to do it. NVIDIA calls their technology "Mosaic."

You can go SLI or even put a secondary nvidia card for display only.

i don't understand the point of this thread. do you have an nvidia as well as an amd card and you want to use one of them for extra monitors only? because you can do that. nvidia disables physx if you have an amd card as the main one, not the entire card. if you want to buy new cards, why are you looking at amd if you want an nvidia card? buy an extra cheap card and use it for ports or use integrated.

What CPU do you have? My 3770k can power 3 additional monitors, so you might be looking for a combined CPU + GPU solution for 5-6 monitors.

You can run AMD and Nvidia GPUs in the same system. Ive run a 6970 with a 680. It caused other minor problems over time though; I really wouldn't recommend it.

Personally I'm going AMD next round unless Nvidia can do 6+ monitors. Native 6-montor support is great, and you can't really count on high-end CPUs to have integrated GPUs. Buying another GPU just for additional monitors is not wise...so much extra heat and power over years of use as well.

I don't know why you think that you have to go with AMD. My 780 is running 4 monitors right now. :)

I would imagine that you could run 8 with 2 cards. But the most I have ever tested was 5, and yes, it worked.

Are you guys running in nvidia surround? I can get more than 3 monitors to display that isn't an issue, but only 3 are supported in surround.
I currently have 3x nvidia gtx 680s "reference" cards running in sli.

The issue isn't that nvidia doesn't support more than 3 monitors it's that surround only accepts 3 monitors for gaming.
