Making a Window

Ok, so I was planning on buying a case with a window but I have seen others with designs that I like better and some are even cheaper. I was wondering a few things about making a window:

1) Is it hard?
2) What would I need?
3) Is it worth the trouble?
4) What's the best way to do it?

You need: masking tape, pencil, cutting instument, plexiglass, lots of time and patience.

1. pull off side panel
2. tape up panel with tape
3. draw window shape
4. cut shape out with some sort of tool (dremel, saw, teeth, fingernails)
5. fasten plexiglass window to inside of panel.
6. Smile knowing you did something constructive with yourself

i agree with Shmuckety the only thing i would add is extra patience and when cutting take your time and you should be good. i would try a jigsaw with a really good blade unless you are going to get fancy with your window then a dremel all the way.

I just have a few more questions:

1) What's the best way to secure the plexi-glass? (Glue?)

2) Can you cut aluminum cases or should I stay away from that?

when i put my plexi in i used goop you can get it a craft stores and i think wal-mart sells it, it is like the duct tape of glue it is my best friend.

Thanks for the link, that should help a lot. I still need to find the right case and $$ tho.

Me and my friends installed a window easily. No window kit needed, make your own!
-DREMEL!
-Bastard File
-Home Depot Acrylic Sheet
-Hacksaw
-Masking tape
-Vice / Clamp
-Table

1. Tape up the sidepanel to pevent scratches.
2. Clamp / vice the case panel to a table.
3. Dremel!
4. File it smooth to rid of the jagged edges.
5. Hacksaw out the window from the acrylic sheet.
6. Tape / glue / epoxy the window on, wahla.
