Making a side panel from 1 piece case cover...

Just wondering if anyone has experience in making a removable side panel from a 1 piece case cover. I have an old case which uses a solid case cover, meaning all sides come off as 1 piece. This, as you can imagine, is pretty annoying/bothersome to remove and put back on.

I figured I could just cut the one side so only that side has to come off to mess with the guts. This would in theory work, but there would be a gap at the cut spot that would look pretty ghetto.

Any ideas?

There would be a little bit of a gap, but you could fix that with careful cutting, also you will need to watch out for the screws in the back, as you may need to make holes for more so that the side panel and the rest of the shell do not stick out without screws holding them down in back.

it wouldn't be to terribly hard if you have the capability to weld, cut metal, and smooth edges.. I wwouldn't use a dremmel for the cutting.. It would take a while (atleast my dremmel takes forever to cut.. stupid generics)

Thanks for the replies.

No capabilities of welding.. I use a dremmel for my cutting/grinding. It works pretty well, as I've cut out blow holes already with it. Not the best, but it gets the job done and with the right attachments can make the cuts look semi-pro.

I was thinking maybe using some sort of molding, such as the stuff they use for the Window kits. This might look weird, but I think it'd be better than a big ol' gap in the top corner.

It would look ghetto as piss, But you can cut it about half an inch from the top, and put thumb-screws in just below the cut so that you can have it slide back and off. I would put 2 thumb screws in (one close to the front and one close to the back) so that it's not flapping loosely in the breeze. Just be sure to tap the hole so the thumb-screws will stay attached. When I get home I'll put a mock-up drawing.
