Right now I am not running an SLI rig or anything, but am looking to buy a PSU that will last me a good long while. Is the 510SLI worth it? In the future I will be running an SLI rig and an A64, and will want the native 24 pin. Also will I have problems using a 20 pin adaptor for my P4? My biggest question is will the 510 last me or will something like ATX3.03 come along?

You should not have a problem with any of the PC P&C 510 psu's...and you can send it back for a nominal fee later on and upgrade it to any new spec....along with adding any new or additional connectors you want !

that could be problematic
for starters PCI-E just got bumped to 150W (12.5A +12V) per card they arent out yet but...
one of the few supplies out there that will still be relevant with a doubling of capacity in a dual SLi rig would be the 510
but not under all forseeable configs, there would be less room for drives
and increases in CPU consumption

it would however likely be relevant for quite awhile in a lean gaming rig
but in a dual CPU rig, or a box with a large number of drives, its a new ball game

I have had numerous PSU's over the years and the PCP&C units are the cat's meow :D However, they are pretty heavy which is a good thing if you have a Lian-Li V series case to put it in as they go in the bottom but a bad thing if they go in a light weight box.

When is the last time you were able to pick up the telephone and call the importer and ask a technical question regarding routing of wires or fan issues and got something other than "we just sell them...call Taiwan." I have made several calls to PCP&C and when I need solid tech info I get a real to life engineer  And they don't get fussy about warranty issues if you decide to make some mods so long as you didn't smoke the circuit because you didn't know the business end of a soldering gun from a RF probe :p

The Turbo Cool 510 SLI version will undoutedly last you a while. And when it comes time to UG just off it in the [H]ardForum For Sale area and get a new one. Probably sell it for about 20% less than what you paid for it. Isn't it nice to get good stuff that holds its value!

Well After this rig I will probably upgrade to a single A64, with a raptor and 2 vault drives running in RAID. SLI of course, might also run a pump to W/C. This will probably be next summer. The 510 should handle it fine right?

play with the numbers

I used a Prescott which may or maynot be representative of a dual core A64

vault drives?

keep in mind thats theoretical and additive
hense deduct 3\4 of the amp draws of everything spinning to workup a realworld maximum draw

the 850ETX is the only supply Im aware of that is actually designed for the next gen of 150W PCI-E SLi, it is an EPS12V split plane (4 +12V rails) and has 60A +12V combined capacity
that is the bulletproof choice, but is also $465
