Ackkk,

So in the pursuit of not having to buy a product sold as UV dye for 5 bucks, that was probally made using shoe polish and two ripe turnips, I decided to set out on a quest to make my own. So I tried adding numerous things to my resiliant pump. If your queezy about damaging pumps please read no further. That said my pump runs fine! I tried adding a few dabs of glow in dark paint to Demin water but didn't get much. So I added a few more dabs, with a little bit of blue and it looked better but not much. I even filled the reservoir with it after filtering it through a coffee filter. That was ok but I needed more. So I tried using food coloring but alas it had no UV properties. Then I happened upon a post about using gel pens to draw inside your case. I bought the gel pins, and didn't see much drawing they would do on anything other then paper. So what to do with me gel pens??? I broke em open and cut em up. Took some water and stirred it up with the boken half of the pen. More stir more color. Then tested it in the UV and lo and behold it is as bright as the orangest orange!!. So I puts it in and am good to go.

As for pump damage I strongly doubt there is much in terms of chemicles that would cause any damage to any parts. This of course assumes that the life of many pumps will likely be short (1-2) years in the pursuit of newer and beterest technology! So if you are not a pump pansi please try and see what you think. Or, just buy the dye as the pens do cost almost half as much..heh

as long as the gel is water soluble you should have no problem. but keep in mind that it's disolved in the water. two things can happen. When your water runs low some may come out of solution and deposit itself on the moving parts and gunk up the pump and lines. two, when the pump is off and the water just sitting there, if it's not a true solution, the material can come out of suspension and do the samething.

Keep an eye on it and let us know what happens.

Yes I have a batch that has been sitting around for several days. I haven't seen any settling take place. The gel pins have a lot of color en em so there wasn't a whole lot of contact with the stir stick required. Looks good so far.

I just read an article about using highlighters. that sounds like a good idea as well. The solution apears to be water soluble with no residue visible after two days. Unfortunately, it only seems to be UV reactive with the orange and yellow uv gel pins. the other blue and green pens didn't work so well.

Interesting loop there :) I like the bottom rollercoaster loop ;P

Yeah, i use hi-liters too, they work great. I wish i could find something blue that would look real great, but i've only had good results with the yellow and orange, and i dont care particularly much for orange water.

yeah i got the w/c stuff used and i was limited on tubing so i didnt cut any tubing i had a chevette heatercore in there and a bix2 was on the way

wow ...mouthwash looks promising for making a nice blue color. Anyone interested in trying this? Heh. may not be the best thing for your components but a little probally wouldn't kill anything.

Cut the end off of the zip tie and it will look better. You can also use hi-lighter on the zip tie to try to blend it in more. Nice job too.

I've got several liquor bottles filled w/ hi-lighter and it looks great under a blacklight. Yellow works the best of course but pink doesn't look that bad either.
