Major internet problems, please help!

I turned on my pc this morning and soon discovered that several things weren't working properly. I can't sign into msn messenger, nor can i sign into my online account on bf2 demo. Also, I get timeout errors for some websites such as anandtech.com, hotmail.com, xtremeresources.com and ebay.co.uk. Furthurmore, when using azureus (a bittorrent client) all my torrents are stuck at 0 KB/s both upload and download. I have scanned for viruses and spyware with NAV 2005, SS&D and adaware and found nothing. (downloading updates seems to work with these programs). I live in the UK and my isp is Tiscali. I have an uncapped 512 download / 256 upload service. I am using a SAMR-4114 router. I've called ticali and they say there's nothing going on at their end and that they will do a line test for me, but that'll take a couple of days. Is there anything I can try in the meantime?
 
Have you power cycled your modem and/or router?
Also see if you can do an nslookup on the sites you are trying to reach.
 
Thanks for the responses guys, the problem seems to have somehow fixed itself overnight - everything's working fine now.
