Major Hard Drive Problems

When the MB in my old desktop died I pulled the hard drive out and tried to transfer all the data (3 partitions on an IBM Deskstar 60GB) to my laptop using an external enclosure. Some of the data transferred fine but on the last partition I kept getting error messages like either "corrupt and unreadable" or "the disk in drive h is not formatted. do you want to format now?" even though it showed the data was there. Is there any possible way I can salvage the stuff on this partition? I have some things I really need to recover for school. Is there any software that could be used to retrieve/fix the files on this partition? Thank you
