hehe the sad part is one video card could out fold all of that now. I wuv's moore's law.
 
Honestly a $400 laptop could out-fold all of that nowadays. Look, he even has a roll of paper towels ready for the hardware viewing. :p
 
Up until recently, I was still folding with my Tyan Thunder K7. With dual Bartons @2.2GHz, it was good for a total of about 400-500 PPD with the most productive WUs of the classic client (650 PPD with the best A1 SMP WUs). So, in that picture we are looking at several thousand PPD worth of today's WUs depending on how many processors are represented by those boxes. Don't forget, lehmann had as many as 18 systems back in the day... ;)
 
I had to laugh at how few points I had when I resumed folding last year after a 7-year break or so. I did the same amount in a day or so.
 
Let me put it this way - when I first started folding, 2 million total team points was a huge milestone that hit the front page.


We hit that in a DAY now.
 
In the old days, there were no GPU clients and no SMP2 or -bigadv, in other words no exponential point structure system either. If we were to revert to using only the classic client and drop our GPU and PS3 clients altogether, there would be a dramatic drop in PPD of orders of magnitude. On top of that, if Stanford was to reduce the point values of WUs to what they were half a decade or more ago, the PPD would drop even further. Hardware has come a long way since those days but it's not 1000 times more powerful.

I know the feeling. Although I never stopped Folding, I was still using just the x86 clients until about Sept.

You would really have to mod that puppy to make it worth of 4.0 with WC, cause that Koolance stuff is a little to old and doesnt push like it should.

If you want to use the rad, that would be fine, but you would most likly need a new pump and it would have to SOLY be for the CPU and not for a GPU as well.
 
Clean your 300 dust filters. :)

If you want to use that Koolance box I would suggest mounting fans inside the case blowing out instead of having just the outer fans in pull config... especially if you're going to try to cool an i7 with/without a gpu.

I looked at them there not nearly as dirty as the picture makes them look.

If you want a build that doesn't fold GPU wise but need a small card, the 13.51 8400 deal on eBay was stillgood for me a few days ago, grabed 2 more rounding out my collection to 3.

Hits 43C during every day tasks, fan at 30*, nearly silent. Great for bigadv boxes!
