major cooling problems

specs in sig, i also use a ultra 120 extreme. when i first started the comp, the first 2 cores are 43 degrees and the other 2 cores are 35 degrees. my fan mounting clips on my 120 keep coming off because of the giant fan when the case is being put together, so i put a rubber band around the fan instead tro keep it attached to the heatsink. i turn my comp on and the first 2 cores are 61 idle and the other 2 are 49 idle. and 80 load.. WTF happened? did 1 rubber band really increase temps 30 degrees lol
 
How fat are the bands or how many? Maybe your rubber bands is rubbing against the fan and slowing it down? Or did you forgot to plug in the power for the fan? Or else check your heatsink and cpu seating to see if you have bad contact.
 
Now I dont have a quad core, that intel is a quad core right? From what I have read those beasties are hot and your temps seem to be on par with what alot of other people are reporting as well.

That being said there are some things you can do, if you are overclocking I would stop and go stock for now first off, see how temps are at stock and besides why the hell would you even need to overclock a quad core? If you are not overclocking then go on to my next recommendation.

Thermalright heatsinks are great, why u are using rubber bands?? I cant imagine, they come with fanclips. Anyhow I suggest a different thermalright model the SI128, its what I use with my opterons and gives better results than the older xp120. It should be compatible with your motherboard. THermalright is always good about including adapters and brackets for amd and intel, very good products, excellent craftsmanship. Anyhow its larger, has larger heatpips and designed a bit better to handle motherboards with all those dam heatpipes on them. HOWEVER a thermalright heatsink is only as good as the fan you slap on it, for that I recommend either the scythe sflex fan the high speed one rated at I think 56 or 60CFM ORR the panasonic/nmb panaflow rated at 86cfm even better for your toasty quad core. These fans are HIGH QUALITY, they have fluid dynamic/hydro wave bearings so they run fairly quiet considering the CFM output and will LAST YOU A VERY LONG TIME, in addition what little noise they do make is generated at a much lower frequency ( appealing to humans) as opposed to most of the cheapos that generate a very high frequency ( very annoying to humans). Im not even gonna say anymore about them and dont even bring up noise, this notion of a silent pc is utter nonsense, these fans do make noise but they do COOL VERY WELL and they dont make that much noise, you make more noise pissing into the toilet LOL. In tandem with a thermalright SI128 you get a very cool processor. NEXT..................

THE CASE>>>>> by far the best case right now and believe me I build all kinds of computers about 75 so far this year. The best case is a Coolermaster Stacker 830 for a number of reasons, your thermaltake is on the right track as a full tower but the stacker 830 beats it by a long shot, it looks good without looking gawdy, you can put up to NINE 120 mm fans in it and the case is vented front and both sides, yes you can hear it working but NO it's not that annoying, background noise I dont even think about. Now in my high end builds I use the scythes and panaflos with the CFM ratings stated above or silverstones with 105 cfm. I use two 86 or 106 cfm fans one for front and one for back, then I use the scythes two on the lower side mounted fan bracket ( it holds four) and one in the top blowhole.

No matter what I put into it though I havent used any quad cores yet, I get far better temperatures on EVERY system I build with this chassis. Most of them are AMD and most run cpu 32idle and 39load these are with high end dual cores and opterons that in my estimation have the same thermal dissipation as your quad core intel and ALL of them are overclocked as well by 200 to 400 mhz above stock cpu frequency.

Now with quad cores i dont know that you could ever get temps that low but I suspect you could bring it down to high 30's idle and mid to high 40's load with a modest overclock.

The stacker 830 is also large enough for the big eps12v power supplies your current case probably cannot handle, it is also wider and wide enough for the big 8800 series video cards.

Now if you dont wanna buy another case, at the very LEAST, change out ALL of the fans, those cases never include high quality, high CFM rated fans you can get 92 mm fans that have 86cfm rating from panasonic panaflos/nmb. The panaflos are soo good they will outlast your rig.

Okay thats my two cents, I hear alot about temps but I dont hear people talk much about their cases, ventilation they offer or what kind of fans and CFM rating they have. Certainly an area often overlooked by the overclocker.

^like i said the fan clips SUCK and are hit off of the heatsink when i put my side case door on because i have a 25 CM fan on the side
 
Another excellent review by conghelach. I have never known that a case could play such a BIG part in dissipating heat.
