mail in rebates: question

what are your thoughts on mail in rebates? it seems to be set up for the person to completely forget about it (10 wk delivery???) and just not respond at all.

question:

if you order an item from amazon, free shipping, and submit the mail in rebate, then later on decide to return the product to amazon, what happens to your rebate? is it posible they still might send it?


another question: more realistic
say you ordered an item on 9/30. it obviously does not get here by september, and arrives oct 3. the mail in rebates say item must be purchased oct1-31. what to do in this case?

mail in rebates are valid based on the purchase date and not the delivery date...just make sure to mail it in by any cut off date

if you return an item I doubt you'll get the rebate but who knows as I've never tried that...that's probably another reason why they make you wait so long to receive the rebate

I always take advantage of rebates...I usually mail it in and then just forget about it until it arrives...manufacturers are hoping that you forget to mail it in (and most probably do)...but once you do send it in it is worth the extra savings

oh i thought i could only do the rebate after gettin gthe product, because the products themselve have information you need for the rebate form.

you can only mail in the rebate after receiving it...but the rebate is valid from the date of purchase...so if a rebate is valid from October 1st- October 31st all you would need to do is purchase the item during those dates...even if you receive the item on November 4th you would still qualify
