how close do unshielded speakers have to be to a CRT Monitor to cause distortion/problems?

The speakers I was looking at were the Onix X-ls.

Depends on the speaker. My Infinity IL10s would cause cause distortion from 4-5ish feet away on my Viewsonic CRT. Thats what switched me to LCDs actually.
