I'm considering changing my clip door to a magnet( clip is going to wear down sooner or later) but since there are magnets on the door, wouldnt that disrupt optical drivers and/or harddrives?

the only thing that it may harm is if you had a working floppy drive that you used as the door. So in other words....nope, you are good to go.

HDs already have magnets in them, and as far as I know, you can't do any harm on optical drives from a case door magnet. There are cases that are sold that have magnet doors. I have a couple of tiny magnets (small enough to be used as door magnets) that are pretty powerful, they will hold a wet dishtowel up on the fridge (don't ask how I found that out) but I don't think you will need that powerful of one. I put a pretty weak magnet in my brothers case door because he liked the door but didn't like to have to open when a burn would want to eject from the optical drives, so a weak one allows for the door to stay closed but will also allow for the optical trays to push it open.

my CM ATC-210 has magnets in the door.....no disruptions with any of the hardware.

Friend has an MGE case I built a comp for him in, works just peachy with magnets in the door. Works just peachy.

Keep floppies, zip disks, and any other form of media similar to those away from the magnets, and all will be well. That is, IF you are using magnets that aren't so strong that you can't get the door open.

What kind of magnets would you guys recomend? and just expoxing them to the door? or hot glue gun?

Small ones.

The best way to do it, I think, is to countersink/embed the magnets into the surface of the material. In other words, drill a hole in the material that is the same size as the magnets. Do a little bit of filing (with needle files) to make the magnets fit. Then put a very small amount of a very thin epoxy or superglue in the hole. Then put the magnet in.

That is what I would do, though I've not tested it to see if it would really work all that well.

I just drilled a small 'dent' into the door and needle filed it to the right size, roughed up the magnet with sandpaper, and applied super glue to it and it hasn't failed.

For the case, I was able to put a small piece of metal behind the bezal and that is what the magnet 'sticks' to. Also on there with superglue, but didn't do any drilling for it, no need since it is never seen.

Small ones.

Agreed. Like the ones that are about the circumference of a pencil eraser, maybe. No more than is needed just to barely hold the door shut, for sure. Good luck!

if you're going to use magnets, be smart about it......dont put it on top of a drive like a retard or anything and you'll be fine.

since the ones you guys showed me were both the same magnet, I went cheap / stylish and bought the rounded style. came to 6.30 shipped. thanks
