The company behind MagicJack has created a new program called MagicTalk that will have no calling fees when calling from computers, smart phones and iPads. Free is always good.

MagicTalk would go one better by eliminating fees for calling landline and cell phones in the U.S. and Canada, with no time limits on the calls. The software will be available next week for Windows and Mac computers. Versions for the iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry and Android phones will follow in September or October, said Dan Borislow, the CEO of VocalTec Communications Ltd

You cant use any of the freeconferencecall.com numbers thats one. That and they can listen to any of your calls, record them, etc.

Odds are it won't have an uninstaller like MagicJack and it will track phone numbers you call to better deliver ads to you.

At least they changed the counter. At first the counter on their page was set to auto increment every time it was refreshed. so keep hitting F5 and wow look at that, a new subscriber.

Never trusted them and never will. It's simply too good to be true.

These guys are asshats. Srsly.

what you do expect for something free.
You give up your privacy so that you can make free calls.

Seriously how far we have fallen from the tree.

i guess you missed the part where you pay for the service people are complaining about.

I hate to bring this into the equation, but facebook has 500 million people being analyzed because their product is free and people love to socialize and share parts of their life. My goodness sake it seems all companies are following you, whether through cookies or toolbars or search engines etc. If someone wants to give me a product that will save me some money so I can get my next video card instead of to the telcos or cable operators, thats my choice.

Agree, my only issue with the MagicJack was the lack of clean method to uninstall it. This will likely be the same if I had to guess.

If its as bad as you say for uninstalling keep up with your backup images.

I would just build a vm and run a windows installation in said vm with the application installed.

You could then fire up the vm when you need to make a phone call and pause or save the state of the vm when your done. I think you can port audio from the guest to host with virtual box.

I think windows 7 even allows you to run a windows xp vm where you can install programs and put the shortcuts on your windows 7 desktop instead. when you click the shortcut it launches the program in the vm without launching the full vm software, its pretty sleek and would be perfect for stuff like this that doesn't like to un-install easy.

After seeing several of my customers' machines completely cornholed by MagicJack through ad-delivered malware, you'd have to pay me UNGODLY sums of money to even consider putting it on my machine.

Yeah, not "I wouldn't install it for any money". Because I'm greedy, not stupid. And VMs are ridiculously easy to set up.

:D

How about MagicJack fixes the area code and region issues for Canada so someone in the same city as me doesn't have to dial long distance just to call me.
