Magic the Gather : Tactics

When I went tot he website it wanted my web browser to install something, is this a web based game or what?

- Wow that buisness model seems excessive, I Think ill stay away for now.

No, not really. It wants you to install flash for some dumb reason. The install is flash, maybe the newest version? Then it uses that installer to download that actual game, about 1.1GB, which seems like a regular program then.

The 5 missions were fun and all but they were like 10-15 minutes each, to get an hour total.

Okay, maybe I'm not understanding the business model correctly but this seems kind of expensive.

The "talent tree" looks like, what, ~100 points? Maybe more if you fill out all the colors. I played through the free missions and you get 1 point total after 5 missions.

You get a talent point for every level after level 5.

You also get experience and cards for the missions. Also, when you complete a campaign I believe you unlock a daily quest for 50xp and 2g per day.

Each gold is worth 10 cents, so 20 cents a day from a campaign. In 25 days you would get $5 worth of gold from the daily, which will help you buy cards in the auction house. Seems to me that campaigns pay for themselves in the long run.

Installed and about to check it out. Honestly, I'm a little scared as I love both Magic and Tactical games, however, a new semester started today.

Checking it out now. Its fun but i have no idea how far you can get without paying $$$. Looking at prices it would seem like usual SOE went for the quick cash grab instead of a long term plan.

Booster packs = $4
Campaigns = $5

Its been a while since i actually bought any cards but isnt that more than it costs to get a physical pack?

If the first campaign is anything to go by you dont get squat for $5. I went through the first campaign in about 45 minutes.

But dont worry! spend $85 on overpriced virtual booster packs and you can save 11%!

Not surprised SOE + Good IP = Disappointment.

The campaigns are actually the better buy for the following reasons.

1. Helps to level up your character a lot faster.
2. You get cards for completing the missions.
3. Missions can be fun and challenging.
4. Most importantly, each campaign unlocks a daily quest.

So, 5 daily quest = 10g a day for free

In 30 days you get $30 of gold for free from doing the daily quests. You can use gold to buy cards in the auction house. This means you really don't have to buy booster packs at all. You can just buy the cards you need in the auction hall. It's slower, but it's the cheapest way to play.

Spend $20 to grind dailies every day and get $30 worth of gold after a month. Fucking SOE... The gold is the most ridiculously priced part of it all. The good cards are ~100 gold which by SOEs ridiculous pricing is $10. If the campaigns are as long as the first one all 5 should be $10. Charging $5 a piece for an hours worth of gaming and a few meh cards is a rip off.

Realistically you are looking at getting one card a week with a $20 investment into this game. You will be passed up within 2 weeks and never stand a chance.

Heres exactly how i look at cash shop games: If it costs more than a typical monthly sub every month to stay competitive its broken, plain and simple.

I have no problem paying $$$ for F2p games when they are done right. Im over $100 into LOTRO and i dont even want to talk about how much im into LoL i dropped $50 into LOU, forgot how much into DDO etc..

I dont know how they managed it with free realms but so far every other f2p venture SOE makes is a fucking disaster. Its like whoever is in charge of the pricing is some greedy shithead that cant see past a month.
