Strange question guys. What pc parts are developed and manufactured in the US if any?
 
visontek was thats why i always bought from them. i dont think theres non right now that i'm aware of.
 
Amd makes flash memory in texas i think.

Its funny, these companies jump ship from america. To save maybe 5 bucks a proc, if even.

Up until 02 durons were made in texas, anyone see a price drop when they moved production?

If a P4 is 200 dollars, is it worth being 210 so it could be made in america?

Then you have the consumers who buy forgein made products then complain that theres no jobs in america.

They dont give a shit about anything but their bottem line. (although some suits in some companies still have a soul, but thats the exception not the rule)
 
Most of Intel and AMD's parts are developed in the U.S. NVIDIA's design offices are in the U.S., too. Western Digital, Seagate, and Maxtor are all based in the U.S. Most of the manufacturing centers are based overseas, though. Intel is one big exception, though CPU assembly occurs in Malaysia and Costa Rica, among other locations. IBM has several key manufacturing in the U.S., still, as well as design houses.

Frankly, I don't care where my hardware comes from. I care about the bottom line in terms of price, performance, and reliability. Though many American IC manufacturers get their parts manufactured overseas, I understand that many more foreign companies outsource to the U.S., on the other hand.
 
Micron (digital camera CMOS sensors, flash memory, system memory...think Crucial) has a bunch of fabs here in the US.

Many of our (HP) products are designed and built in the US. In fact the LaserJets have always been manufactured right here in the good 'ol USA.

Our ink and paper products are made in Richmond, Va, I believe. LaserJets in Fort Collins, CO.
 
fab'd? or assembled in the USA? big difference, like most car companies have the parts made overseas, ship em in, the assemble the car here....

Theres a list of companies outsourcing. Not to meet demand in a foreign market, but to meet demand in the USA. Most major pc makers are on that list, gateway, dell etc. I dont know how frequently that list is updated, but its worth a gander.

Everyone from ford to AMD is on there. So pretty much everyone :D

Strangely Nvidia isnt on there, that list of course isnt all encompassing or anything.
 
Maybe before you start ranting about OUTSOURCING maybe you should look around you own house and in your closet and see what you have bought that isn't made in this country.

I bought my MAZDA Protege5 2 years ago. It happend to be built in JAPAN unlike the CIVIC or the Sentra which are built here.

Ok I liked the car.. I bought the car from an AMERICAN salesman who works for an AMERICAN who happends to own the MAZDA dealership.

Am I screwing AMERICAN WORKERS? If I am then every one who bougth a HONDA or NISSAN built here is screwing a JAPANESE worker.

Doesn't the salesman have a family to feed with the commission he made on my purchase? Doesn't his boss pay TAXES on the profit made on the sale of my car and the rest of the cars on his lot?

Guess what? Honda and Nissan and other companies that have factories here in the US employing AMERICANS are maximising profit margins like EVERY OTHER COMPANY THAT HAS EVER EXISTED.

Outsourcing and insourcing are the ebb and flow of every economy. Foreign companies spend 6 times more money employing AMERICANS than our companies spend on FOREIGN labor.

Also the bottom line of these companies is what makes my 401k and everyone else's go up. Mine happend to almost doubled in 2003 alone.

...and I have to commend you on making some of the toughest li'l printers I've ever seen...those old Laserjets print FOREVER...

stick them in a closet, take them out a few years later, they still print, run 1000 copies of something through, they don't run out of toner, bang on them, kick them, abuse them, they don't break...
 
most stuff is DEVELOPED here, but its made overseas due to taxes and labor (same educated people work for less and harder than americans)

in any case, who cares?
