Wondering if anyone knows anything about the Maddog line of PSUs. I am sure it is a rebadge, as that is what Maddog is known for I just cant figure out who the original manufacture is. Any help appreciated.

I like to know myself Maddog is all over CompUSA

All of the Mad Dog power supplies I have run across have been TTGI/Superflower/Topower rebadges. One of my machines is currently using their 500W modular one, and it has been rock solid so far.

being a rebrander they could easily be from multiple manufacturers
ThermalTakes are also rebrands, the better ones often attributed to SirTech \ Highpower (same company Taiwan Face & US Face)
and they have been manufacturing for Compusa in the past

there is only limited value to manufacturer attribution
basically it tells you a history of how the supplies get rated
so you can factor in what windage to give the figures
and it gives you an idea of build quality and sometimes component quality
however there can still be a big difference inn the design of one series to another
so its best to get competent reviews of the actual model your interested in

ancedotal recommendations are also of limited value
that increases if the config the recommender has is close to your own (same crossload)
but other variables are still wide open like power quality (AC) and environment (temperature)

Well just got home with my new Maddog 500w Surepower modular. Out of the box I am more impressed. The finish on the case is really nice considering it's price point. The rated rail amps are also impressive.
+ 3.3v + 5v + 12v - 12v - 5v + 5VSB
35A 45A 30A 0.8A 0.5A 2.5A
253W 360W 9.6W 2.5W 12.5W

BTX 1.0a compliant
ATX 1.3 & 2.03 compliant
5 year warranty

Give me some play time and I will get some numbers from my DVOM. Not the greatest but will give us some basis for comparison. Let me know if there is anything else I need to look at to get more details into this rebrand. Also of note, this PSU is noticeably heavier then the Ultra X-Connect I pulled out.

Something doesn't add up and apparently it was my ability to read today

ATX v2.03 and ATX12V v1.3 are different standards. The first is for motherboards, second is for PSUs.

Reading is fundamental...........actually wish I could blame it on the sidekick's screen but I can't. I only glanced and posted. NM. FIxing post now.

At $100 it's a bit overpriced though. The TTGI/Superflower 550w modular is only around $85 and comes with a single 140mm fan so it is much quieter. Also looks better with the blue LEDs and metal mesh sides IMO.

Yeah but where can you find them in stock? I have wanted to mess with one in a backup system but xoxide seems to be out.

I actually just found that right as I was reading your post. The X-Connect in the name has me a bit worried though; probably just a misname by Directron.

The item picture is the same I get from TTGI's website......so I guess I will take a look. Stick it on the CC and then if I have to work through resolution that way if it isn't the right item.

Still havent found a good way to tap into the harness without damage to get DVOM readings. I will comment that the fans cannot be heard over my other fans I have. The three in this Maddog unit are thermally controlled and seem to be very effective. It is more silent than the Tt PSU in another box I have and it seems quieter than the Ultra-X that was in its place.

Yep. $100 sure is overpriced, but considering I got mine when they were on sale for $49 at CrapUSA I'd say it was a great buy.

The ones at Compusa, that I've seen look like my Thermaltake PSU.

Right you are. I replaced a dead Antec in an "emergency" for someone recently from CompUSA (you know that panic call you get on a Sunday morning). It was claimed to be a MadDog 550W unit, but when I got it out of the box it was a Tt 480w Purepower unit. Nice PSU. Performs well.... better than I expected, but seriously overpriced.
