I just bought a MacBook for my girlfriend and the trackpad button feels really tight and unresponsive... almost spongy. After using my MBP for years, am I just too used to its trackpad and the MacBook just like that or did I get a bad trackpad button?

I have to say that about 40% of the MacBooks I've used had "squishy" feeling trackpad buttons. They just don't click right.

Something that might help is putting a thin card shim under the trackpad, between the battery and the case. Works for me. Or, you can use Apple's 14 day no questions ask return/exchange. I think they have that...

Take it into a service center and complain about it. They'll very likely just swap out the top case. You'll get a new trackpad and everything.

Little wad of folded paper placed between the battery and the bottom of the button will change the feel of it.
