I think I might be falling into the trap of wanting better specs for a Macbook than is really necessary for what I use a computer for. I also have no idea what to get since I've been a PC person my entire life so I have a much better idea of what specs I need for a PC than I do a Mac. So here is the list of what I'll be using it for. I am a student so my needs aren't that great:

1)Surfing the internet
2)MS Office (Mostly Word and Excel, with some Powerpoint, though maybe I'll probably use Apple's Keynote)
3)Watching videos (mostly DVDs)
4)Some web design (which means a little photo editing, but nothing too intense since I'm not great at it). I don't think I'll be using Dreamweaver. I'm usually fine with Notepad++ (or the Apple equivalent).
5)iChat/Skype chatting
6)I used to play games a lot. That's really died off. It'd be nice to have the option to play Warhammer Online (running windows xp or something). But I haven't even touched that game in well over a month. School is so busy, it's slowly killed the gamer in me...

I think a Macbook would actually suit your needs really well. The Macbook has gotten some major performance boosts lately. I'd probably stick with the white Macbook, unless you like the look of the silver aluminum casing. The base white Macbook would probably suit your needs fine. If you have an Apple store or an Apple retailer near your house, go check one out for yourself, and see if you like it.

the white previous gen macbook would suit your needs also. I used to be in the same situation with games and such and i noticed that the white macbook does fine. I have the gma950 white macbook so its not as updated as the new one but it serves it purpose and lasts pretty well. Tho i did have some problems with the logic board and then the DVD drive and then my hard drive died... maybe just bad luck

I'm finding my Macbook to cramped, so I'm moving over to a Macbook Pro. For the most part it's about screen size. If your comfortable using a 13.3" screen for what you want to do, then the Macbook, especially the newer generation, is fine for you. I noticed that when I got my Macbook I used it much more that previous computers I've owned. Also, remember you can get a good deal buying a refurb of whichever model you chose.
