Macbook Pro Bootcamp gaming

I have a Macbook Pro 15inch 2011. I have the hard drive partitioned for Mac OS and Windows 7 pro 32bit. I honestly only use the Mac partition for work and windows for all my gaming. At first this was fine but lately games aren't running very well. I have a dual monitor set up with the Macbook monitor and a 22 inch external monitor connected with an hdmi cord. I display the desktop on the external monitor and use it as the main display with the macbook monitor displaying the extended desktop. I would post the specs from a dxdiag but I'm posting this from work and don't have the computer with meso I'll list them manually.

Processor: 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with 8MB shared L3 cache
4GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1333MHz DDR3 memory
750GB 5400-rpm hard drive
Radeon HD 6750M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory on 2.2GHz configuration
Intel HD Graphics 3000 with 384MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory

I'm getting low fps and slow load times. When I played WoW and Skyrim, I didn't have these problems. I got 40 to 60 fps and never had issues with loading or reading web pages while the game was running. When I run games like Diablo 3, Everquest 2, Need for Speed Most Wanted 2012, I'm lucky to get 6 to 10 fps. Basically these games are almost unplayable.

Does anyone have a suggestion on what will make these games run better. I meet all of the recommended specs for the games but they don't play like I think they should given the quality of the hardware.
 
For sure. I also find I need to lower my resolution in games quite a bit to get a decent frame rate.
 
It's weird that Skyrim and WoW bnoth play great on high settings and EQ2, Diablo 3 and NFS Most Wanted '12 run poorly.
 
I wouldn't think you are being limited by RAM here, but it's possible I guess. I have 8GB.
 
Download "Throttlestop"

And set the clock back to 2.3Ghz and disable C1E then start....

After certain EFI update, the throttling become very aggressive in Bootcamp.

So far Throttlestop is the only way to stop this issue, but still not solving it completely.
 
What does the throttling do? How is that affecting my fps? You went way above my knowledge on this one, that's why I'm asking.

Throttling is when a CPU or GPU or both are deliberately slowed down to a fraction of their rated speed. This can cause massive drops in FPS. If you are ever playing a game and it seems to run fine and then it looks like it is running in slow motion and then it instantly speeds back up; you might be seeing the results of throttling.

In some laptops like the Acer 3830TG and some Mac laptops, the cooling solution is inadequate so it is impossible to run the CPU and GPU at their rated speed for any length of time without triggering throttling. For these laptops, one solution has been to use ThrottleStop to run your CPU at a slower speed. You can use ThrottleStop to disable the Turbo Boost feature so your CPU won't run as fast but it also won't get as hot. Slowing down the CPU sounds bad but many games are GPU dependent so a slightly slower CPU is barely noticed when gaming. If it helps you avoid the throttling temperature then it can help you avoid those instances in games where it seems like you are running in molasses.

On other laptop models ThrottleStop can be used to force your CPU to run at full speed and ignore the throttling temperature set by a laptop manufacturer. No matter how you have ThrottleStop set up, it can not avoid the Intel preset throttling temperature. Intel builds protection into their CPUs at the hardware level and no third party software like ThrottleStop can disable this safety feature. That's a good thing. ThrottleStop lets you work around some of the over zealous throttling methods used by some manufacturers. Intel rates most of their new 3rd Generation Ivy Bridge CPUs to be able to run reliably and at full speed up to 105C but some laptop manufacturers have decided to ignore that rating and have set throttling points much lower than this to keep typical consumers happy.

ThrottleStop also includes CPU and GPU temperature logging so you can run it in monitoring mode and try to discover what is triggering the problem. A laptop manufacturer might set a GPU core temperature of 80C to trigger throttling. The GPU temperature can be used to trigger the CPU to throttle to its minimum speed to control heat. If this is the problem then use ThrottleStop to reduce your CPU speed to help prevent your GPU from ever reaching the critical throttling temperature.

AnandTech used ThrottleStop in a recent review to get some control over the throttling Dell XPS15 L521X laptop. That's another model that suffers from completely inadequate cooling.

SPeaking of heat, my MBP gets pretty hot when I'm gaming. So throttling sounds like something that could be happening. But for games like Diablo 3 regardless of temp, the game still runs like it's swimming in mud.
 
Run ThrottleStop in monitoring mode, check off the Log File option and then go play some Diablo 3 for a while. When you are done, you will have a very accurate record of your CPU's performance while playing. Copy and paste the data to www.pastebin.com and post a link here if you would like me to have a look.

You can't fully solve a problem until you have some data that shows you what the problem is. Trying to find a laptop that can fully use the CPU and GPU and run them both at their rated speed, regardless of what game you are playing, is a lot more difficult than you would think. There is a wide variety of random throttling problems and different throttling methods used throughout the industry to cover up poor cooling solutions. Light and thin is in. Proper cooling is not.
 
Before changing anything in ThrottleStop why not check the Log File option and go do some gaming.

ThrottleStop is like a Swiss army knife. It might take a while to figure out the 101 things it can do but the basics are pretty simple. Click on the Turn On button, click on the Set Multiplier button and if you want your CPU to run slower, reduce the multiplier.

To get a better feel for ThrottleStop, put a simple load on your CPU. Open up the TS Bench window and run 1 thread of this benchmark. Click on the 1024M button so your CPU will have a load on it while you make adjustments. Now you can adjust the multiplier on the main window and watch what happens to your CPU speed as well as your CPU core temperatures. When you are finished playing, push the TS Logo that looks like a Stop button at the top left of the TS Bench window or simply click on the X at the top right to stop the benchmark and exit this part of the program.

Head to Google and do a search for ThrottleStop and Mac and you should be able to find some additional information. Once you post some numbers, what's really going on with your CPU should make more sense. Head into the Options window and try turning on GPU monitoring too before you start logging some data. I am not sure if the GPU in your Mac is supported.
