my idiot of a brother spilt a drink onto the keyboard and now it doesn't turn on. i'm letting it dry out...i'm no expert on them so i can't take it apart...what should i do?

What kind of drink? If it was water, then maybe - MAYBE - letting it dry out is all you need to do. But if it was something else, or a few days of dry time doesn't bring it back, what you need depends on where the beverage went inside the machine when the spill occurred.

My suggestion in this case, since you're not fluent with the laptop's innards, would be to take it to an Apple store (or other Apple-certified repair location), let the Genius Bar / depot technician(s) assess the damage and recommend necessary repairs. Just be prepared to open your wallet. Repair costs could range from just the keyboard (cheap) to logic board/hard disk/etc (a new Macbook may be more cost-effective). Base your repair/replace decision on the repair quote. Good luck!

Since you apparently tried to start it up once, it may not work again. It would have been better to let it dry for a few days without touching it.

If you can't get it fixed, make him pay for it. :D

Brian's suggestion is what I would go with.

I'm gonna bet it's going to be more cost effective to get an entirely new computer :( good time to upgrade/jump to a newer generation macbook though...
