Macbook Battery Almost Failed

How can you say something “almost" failed? I mean, it either failed or it didn’t…right? Wrong. According to this guy, even though the battery ballooned out like this...the damn thing it still works.
 
Blows my mind why someone would still want to try it after that.
 
I would think a full lab apron and safety glasses would be normal equipment before I would want to become a regular user of that one. I have used things beyond their useful state a few times, but that just looks dangerous.

 
Looks more like the integrated MacBook airbag deployed prematurely. :p

I sure wouldn't want to use that laptop with it ballooned-out like that. Person needs to remove the battery lickity-split before it does explode.
 
What amazes me are the Mac fanboys praising Apple for the genious battery design at the same time blaming sony for the battery failing.
It boggles the mind to think about the kind of logic at work there.

Two certainties about that:
1. Apple and Jobs could actually convince you that is indeed true, with or without Macboi.
2. Apple would have the word "flaw" removed from the dictionary, so no one can ever call there stuff that again.

i love the lack of edit button...it just has the pretext of pwnage! It's the front page so its not really imporant.. but if somebody says somethign really dumb.. it's jsut great ;)

Didn't you know that burgeoning battery packs were a new fad started by Apple? All the cool people have one. Or should I say hot. Yes, I went there.

The part did fail. In this case, it did not meet the design objective of staying within the Macbook.

Back on track, Macs suck and are overpriced.

And everyone on this thread is right in saying that the Mac batteries and the Sony batteries are pretty much manufactured in the same way but while the expanding battery for Sony is considered a fatal flaw it is just another "just works" feature for the Macs.:):)

Exactly, I wouldn't even have that in the house. Lithium batteries are known for exploding and catching on fire when they go bad.

Mac fanboys in general boggle my mind. No ... Logic ... MUST, Aarahhhhhh....
 
Heads up - once a battery puffs like this (especially LithiumIon/Polymer) it's dangerously close to being able to catch on fire and start a wonderful 3000 F fireball. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that battery in that condition needs to be replaced as quickly as possible to avoid a disaster, or injury...

I think my laptop just typed that on it's own.

Anyway, the only upside here is that Apple is pretty good about replacing things. A bad airport card in my MBP netted me a new case, a new screen, a new keyboard, a new antenna assembly, a new trackpad, and (after the third trip back to apple) a new airport card. Who can argue with that? Except for the whole not having a laptop for three weeks thing...

Five dollars to anyone that wants to try and pop it...

Xeen is right... puffed battery is one step away from burning down your house. Punch a pin-hole in the foil bag and there is an excellent chance you'll be rewarded with a nice jet of flame and noxious smoke... RCers use batteries with a similar chemistry that will puff up if over charged or discharged... several have lost their houses. I've had three li-poly packs do the same thing and got nice flame when the casing was breached.... yeehaw!

LOL! Yeah they probably will with the new IPenis! Only problem though is that it will only "Interface" with the Apple IVag. :D
