Yes the default gateway is the router network ID(ip adress).
I wish i can help you, but i recommend getting a long ass ethernet cord and run it from your airport. Then problem solved.

I haven't read through the entire thread, but it sounds like you still haven't gotten it to work properly. There should be a way to do it, because I remember I used to do the same thing with my laptop and Xbox. Worse comes to worse, you could install bootcamp and do it through windows, cause I know for sure it can be done in windows.

Let me just warn you though, you're going to get terrible ping times. My setup didn't work well at all for playing on Xbox Live. If you're close to your router, you might have better luck. I was fairly far away (like 3 out of 5 bars on my laptop).
