Macbook and 27" HD tv

Im on the cusp of purchasing a macbook (Just missed those refurbs at work today) but anyway I picked up an insignia HD tv for like 300$ (floor model ftw) - but anyway I had the brainstorm that maybe I can hook this thing right up to mac. Ive run it off my pc and its never been practical, but it seems like macs are good at projecting onto bigger displays. So id like to know what you think of this while i plan my purchase out. thanks
 
What inputs and resolution does the TV support?

Since I'm assuming it's not 1080p, it'll probably look pretty bad (since you're losing more pixels horizontally).
 
the problem is you're only getting a bigger image. You're actually seeing less.

The GUI may be fooling you, but there's nothing that will make the Macbook look better on it than a Windows machine.
