Hey sorry for the noob question but is there a difference between a mac video card and a pc video card. My dads friends a photographer and needs to upgrade his mac's video card it is a nvidia 7300 GT, is this the same as a 7300 gt for pc? Also what would be a good upgrade budget card for him? He doesn't play games just photo editing.

Sounds like a G series. I think Apple still sells the 8800GT, check their site if its still available and compatible with your system.

Yes, there is a difference between Mac and PC parts. Not gonna go into doing research to find out the difference since I don't care to know.

Any inexpensive card can be used for photo editing. A 9500GT or HD 4650 should be more than capable of non gaming tasks.

A quick google shows the difference may just be firmware. It could be possible to flash a regular PC video card to work in a Mac.

The firmware is different - do some searches and eventually you'll find what you're looking for. The "mac" version of my 8800gt was like $300, but I just found the firmware and flashed a $50 used one, and now it works in my Mac Pro.

It may be, as I remember flashing a VooDoo 3 3000 to run on a mac back in the day. It is in the firmware.

This is exactly why I don't like Macs
