I have a new 250GB Crucial SSD installed in the original HDD bay of a Macbook (the SSD is not installed in the ODD bay). Through Parted Magic's GParted, I created a GPT partition table but did not create any partitions. Then I get to Disk Utility by booting off of my Snow Leopard installation USB flash drive and attempt to create a partition. I get this error message:

Partition failed
Partition failed with the error:
Wiping volume data to prevent future accidental probing failed.

Furthermore, it wiped the partition table. If I got to the Erase tab and try to 'erase' the SSD drive as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) it will give me the same error message as above.

I have also tried the path of using GParted to create a GPT partition table and an HFS+ partition that takes up the full capacity of the drive. I get the same error as quoted above (in addition to the partition table and partition being blown away entirely).

If I attempt to format the drive using the Terminal utility in the OS X Installer using this command: diskutil eraseDisk JHFS+ Test /dev/disk0

I get this error:

Error: -69825: Wiping volume data to prevent future accidental probing failed

I have tried both Option 1 and Option 2 and get the same error as quoted above.

If I do: fdisk -i -a hfs /dev/disk0
Then go to Disk Utility, there is an unmounted disk0s1 that I'm unable to mount (if I click mount it turns gray for only a split second, partition remains a gray text). If I select the partition --> go to the Erase tab --> attempt to erase to Mac OS Extended (Journaled), I get this error:

Volume Erase failed
Volume Erase failed with the error:
File system formatter failed.

If I do the above again but skip the erase --> reboot instead to attempt to install OS X, the disk0s1 partition is not listed as a volume to install OS X on (but does still show up in Disk Utility).

I have tried the route of using GParted to create a GPT partition table --> boot from Snow Leopard installation USB flash drive --> Terminal --> gpt destroy /dev/disk0 --> Disk Utility --> create a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) partition, but get the error same error I have been getting (first quote in this post)

EDIT: I found success by removing the SSD --> plugging it in via USB adapter. I was able to create a partition using Disk Utility no problem. *sigh* soo stooopid
