Can you put Mac OS X on a PC? I have parts for a decent PC laying around but I want to put Mac on it and I need to know if it is compatible.

Sincerely,
A Mac n00bie

no, because OSX isnt designed for an X86 CPU...their CPUs have different architechtures.

But when they use the new intel chips this summer, that OSX will be X86...but i doubt they will sell an operating system that can be installed on PC hardware.

But someone will hack it im sure.

There's no official, final osx for x86 build yet, but there's at least 3 of the developer versions out there (probably on your favorite p2p network.) They've all been cracked to run on any hardware, as long as the cpu has sse2 support (so no athlon XP love) and afaik there is limited-to-no video acceleration except on the intel 915 integrated chipset, which is what the dev kits use.

There's very little point in trying to get hold of a copy though - I think it'll try to phone home to apple at the first chance it gets, and there's no mainstream applications for it yet either.

I have a friend running OSX on his 915 chipset and it runs very nicely. He actually went out and bought the board soley for this purpose. It installs on the board without a hitch. And is quite cool.
