Hello to all. I’m new to this forum but have been modding everything and anything I could for the last 3 years. Anyway down to what I’m doing at the moment.
For the last week I’ve been modding out an old case (angle grinder and dremel).

The Plan:
To cram both a windows machine and a Mac in one case, have them networked with a built in KVM switch, H2O Cooling system, Neon’s, Side windows in the shape of an apple (for the Mac side) and Windows logo (windows side).

What I’ve Done So Far:
Cut case to fit, Double sided M-Board Mounts for centre, working on mounting fans on the front. Modded both power supplies to fit.

So far so good.

Will upload pics of what I've done so far later today.

Thanks
Drac

I almost didn't read this topic bc of the title. I was expecting some sort of flame thread :D. Nevertheless this sounds like an awesome idea, one I've wanted to do for quite some time now. One thing you might wanna consider is, rather than a KVM, dual monitors and a program called Synergy.

Synergy allows you to share keyboards and mices between two or more computers. It's quite cool.

or........you could always just buy one of those mac mini's and mount it in a 5.25'' bay of a sweet PC. :D

Just thought I'd drop the specs of what’s going in.

PC: :p
AMD Athlon 64 3200+, MSI K8 Neo-3v (i love this bored because it has AGP and PCI-E), 2GB PC3200 DDR, Western Digital SATA 200GB 8Mb, MSI Nvidia NX7900GT-T2D 256mb PCI-E, 600w Antec PS, LG 16x DVD/DVD-RW (this is just my main computer at home)

MAC:
G4 1.2 GHz, Quicksilver MB, 1Gb SDRAM, Western Digital 80GB SATA 8Mb, XFX Nvidia 5200 VTD (Flashed PC Rom), 350w PS, 16x Sony DVD/DVD-RW. (My Audio/Visual system. (Sound and video edit system))

Pics will be coming in about 2 hours (I'm at work right now)

P.S Has anyone done anything like this before?
I should have thought of a better name for this thread but hay.
I also haven’t thought of a name for this project yet so feel free to help me brainstorm names.

"two-face"
"reliable and the blue screen of death"
"1 virus every 10 years vs. infected daily"

sounds cool, waiting on pics

I'm not a big fan of the AGP/PCI boards, last time I checked they didnt work that great, and were really unstable. Lots could have happened in 3 months though.

Ok so everyone who wants pics here they are:
(More to come, this project only just started)

This is my habitat, but more importantly that is the PC I'm using on this mod.

And this is the Mac, I'm now going with a B&W G3. Im going to replace the 350MHz CPU with a G4 1GHz, its got 512 but I'll go to a gig.

I re-sprayed this case as a present for a friend, but they bout a new comp 4 days before there birthday so it’s been in the shed.

Just playing around with some different fan mounts at the front.

Decided that a 120mm fan would be best for keeping the PSU's cool. (don’t forget the water Cooling is till to come)

Just playing round with different ways of mounting the PSU's.

31050613092of.jpg

Just a bit of clutter :D . That’s my sisters PII 400MHz Sitting on the table, she wonted my old case.

31050613104dj.jpg

More clutter :D .

Well that’s all from me at the moment, I wont to get back to working on the front end.
Hope everyone has a good night.....
Bye for now.

You asked if anyone had done this before. Well, not exactly as you have it, but yes, MightymouseCube contains this setup. Originally built in 2003, but obviously being upgraded as time has gone on. This is the most up to date info.

MountainMods UFO case:
Watercooled
AMD FX-57
MSI Neo4 939 Board SLI
Dual EVGA 7800GTX SLI
2GB RAM
Audigy4 Pro
600GB HDD's

and

Intel P4 2.8C (NAS)
OSX 10.4 (Windows XP Pro on "Parralels" software)
875P motherboard
1GB Ram
2.2 TB
HDD's

So yes I do have a Windows and a Mac system in one case, but there isnt an "Apple" computer in there... Not to mention I have an AMD and an Intel system in one case. Granted they are both x86 based systems...

Hay all.
Cheers for your comments, keep em coming.

Quick Update:
I got both the power PSU mounted last night, And the Mac bored mounted on the centre plate.
Hopefully tonight I might get the Brackets in for the PCI/PCI-E/AGP Slots tonight.
And the reason I’m using a KVM switch is because the Mac bored is actually facing the wrong way, so I’ll run the KVM switch off both boards then to a custom Back Panel.
I'll try and get some more pics up this arvo, just 1 or 2 of what I'm doing at the front with the 120mm Fan.

Drac :p

I hate to say this, but I feel I must.

You do know you can buy any of the new Core Mac's and they will run Windows quite nicely.

The one I have in the lab is actually more stable in windows then any of the PC's in the lab, and faster then any of the older Mac's in the lab.

yer i would love one of the new Intel core macs but they cost so mutch, plus im moving interstate soon in a mini and thought this would be a easy way to cut down on packing space. and I'v always wonted a double system.

will post more pics tomorrow morning.

night all

Drac

cool idea, im still waiting for a stable version of OS X that is straight up compatible with a PC, but I'm considering buying a mac when I have alot more funds (and my crave for PC parts dies down a bit). Like the idea, like to see how it ends up.

its a good idea. shame that it is kinda useless now cause the new intel macs can run windows through boot camp. you can do everything in windows on a mac than you can in windows on a windows machine. but this is an interesting idea and i look forward to the end product.

You are going through a lot of work to keep a 1.2 G4 at work. Why? That chip is incredibly outdated and outperformed by lots of things. Granted, if you need MacOS to work and that is the only one you can get I guess I can understand, but still... The G4 was OK in it's heyday, but now, it's like running a P3.

Hay all. This project has been put on hold
Moving time came earlyer than expected so will contune with this project in a couple of weeks once i have unpacked all my tools and gear.
did make some prgress last night thought, got the case painted.
Will upload pics of painted case this afternoon, its oragne! ;)
Cant wait to get there and unpack.
Thanks
Drac

P.S Once I've Moved I wont be able to update this thread untill I finish my project as I'v sold all my other computers to pay for the move. :(
