Alright so I'm very excited to say I just picked up my apple system a wonderful powerbook. I'm having the incredible experience of sitting out on my patio listening to music streaming off of my NAS in the other room. While this all may not seem like much, this is freakin nuts to me!

Anyhow, I'm looking for estabilished media programs, I am a fan of Media Player Classic on my windows box as well as winamp for music. I know that quicktime is much improved in osx but still it doesn't have support for fairly common divx, xvid etc codecs which I have been unable to find on the net. So I switched over to videolan which is a solid program for this purpose.

What other media programs are out there and recommended by other hardocp mac users.

Please mention any other apps a newb mac user should be aware of. Thanks!

VLC is the best program I found
there is also Mplayer, and windows media player

being a new mac person myself this is what I have found as programs I use a lot

Colloguy -IRC
VLC
Cyberduck -ftp client
Quinn -tetris
Limewire -"patches"

those are the freebies, and other than that (and finalcut studio, cs2) you should be good.

If you read the FAQ there is a nice link with a list of mac programs
