Mac file compression utility

Is there any free Mac utility I can use to 'zip' up some files and email them to a PC user?

Right-click a file (or a folder, or a collection of files), click 'Create archive of ...'

Swoosh, a zip file containing all selected items, compressed and ready for transfer. It's been built-in since at least 10.3.

with earlier versions just use zip from the command line

And of course there's StuffIt Expander.
