hey all, just curious, as many people ive read have modded the PowerMacG5 case to fit a x86 PC (even the G4's and G3's) When the Intel PowerMacs come through, od you think they will have normal x86 motherboards, so you could just remove the internals like now, but without extra modding? just and idea i was thinking about during the day

Apple has never followed any standards in the past so it is highly unlikely they would start now.

Not true, they follow Apple standards :D

They have been getting better as of late though, probably because its easier and cheaper to use normal production stuff, like SDRAM and drives. Besides we wouldn't have Firewire if it wasn't for Apple and their strange standards :)

They follow some standards , back plate layouts pci slot things etc.

The intel move might make things easier but I doubt it.

the only thing that makes it difficult in the G5 cases is the different PCB layout for the motherboard, it has an extended section to interface with the back panel, when in a normal PC case the backpanel is set into the case the same amount as the PCI slot openings. The intel macs (well at least the developer ones) where custom PCB's to fit the cases, so unless they change the case (which the probably will do) then it's not any easier. But I REALLY doubt that they would make it easy to change for PC bits... remember they're apple. and they're better than us.
