Well Mobile is really slow, so I'll move it here.

Now, as long as it's under 2,000 and I get a student discount.

I really like how much more technologically Hardware wise the Asus is.

I like how the MAC weighs less, but it is less technologically up to date.

Slow HDD.

I don't know.. any in sight is appreciated..

Oh, our Dorms will be using OSX software so this is a main concern.

Only game I would ever play on it is CS:S.. I would like max-high settings at least. Rest is school work.

P.S. Is the Webcam quality good on both? I just noticed it.. ^_^

Thanks!

I like the Pro's bootcamp though!

Fixed Links!

Links don't work...

I wouldn't suggest you get a MBP... Even if you plan on gaming. Seriously, with the battery life, and you being at school/going to classes, plus in the heat... I'd get a regular macbook for that.

Having said this, I love my MBP. It's a solid machine. But, 3 hrs of battery life with Wifi off, screen down at minimum, Bluetooth off, and an undervolted CPU... Well.

But, as for CS:S iunno.

I replaced my mbp with a newer model recently and I absolutely love it. The LED displays are beautiful, the construction is solid, and it games just fine if youre planning on running bootcamp. I am more than happy with my Macbook Pro :)

I say buy the cheapest MBP you can, then buy a big 7200rpm hard drive from newegg, and at least 2gb of ram from newegg. You will be very happy

The current model MBPs are shipping with 2 x 1GB sticks from Apple. 2GB sticks are so cheap now, I'd say just go with 2 of those.

I fixed the links, sorry!

The MBP seems skinnier. I won't be in class that much just when I need it.

I like the bigger screen offered than the regular MacBook and capability of the 8600M GT

Well, this is what I selected through my student discount.

Specifications

* 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
* 2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
* 200GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
* SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
* MacBook Pro 15-inch Widescreen Display
* Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
* Accessory Kit

What's the difference, do I want Glossy WideScreen of Glossy?

I'd probably go with the MacBook Pro. I don't like glossy LCDs. Some people do, it's personal preference.

get the base MBP. perfect for what you want. and $1800 with student discount

I get 4 hours of wifi browsing out of my base 2.2 mbp... this is the best battery life I've seen in a notebook, i know there are better, but the mbp is not bad by any means.

I get 4.5 with bluetooth off and brightness at half. Battery life on the Macbook Pro is great. I would recommend the matte (non glossy) screen and upgrading to 4gb ram.

Its hardly "old tech"...

pfffffffffffft get a thinkpad

Our systems are Mac in the Honors college.

It would be beneficial if I'm using MAC all of the time. My Desktop is Windows.

I think I've pretty much decided MBP, even if it is a little more. I like the features it offers and the Company.

Something other than Windows too.

I really don't want Vista either. So OSX + XP pro

I don't know why you would want a gaming capable laptop when you have such a capable desktop... Just doesn't make sense to me. For school I'd rather have a 7hr Extended battery laptop like a thinkpad, or a low heat MB.

But you won't be disappointed by the MBP...

I got the matte screen on my MBP and love it. I had a white MacBook with a glossy screen, but the matte is MUCH better, IMO. Definitely up the RAM to 4GB. NewEgg has really cheap RAM prices. I got a 4GB DDR2 667 PC2-5300 Kingston for only $85 shipped.

Idk what thinkpads you're using, but all of the one's I've seen will get 2.5 hrs of battery IF you're lucky...on the stock battery that is.

I just got a base model MB and I couldn't be happier. Granted, I haven't tried any PS work but for everything else, it's been flawless. Right now, I have 6:30 hrs of battery remaining. This is with BT off, WiFi on, and the screen brightness on 3.

I don't know if I am taking my desktop up to my dorm yet, and I would like to have that raw power there when I need it. E.g., photoshop, movies, some CS:S.

I like the bigger screen too. I can't stand the tiny aspect of the regular Book.

My last notebook was an eMachine and it is a horrible company in my opinion.

MacBook Pro all the way. I just got mine like a week ago and it's the best machine I've ever used. I get like 4-4.5 hours of battery life with brightness down and bluetooth off. It's amazing. I have the middle model one with the 160GB HD and the 256MB 8600M GT. It's seriously amazing.

Oh BTW matte screen on the MBP is really nice. I had a glossy screen on my last laptop and it was cool because the colors stood out but it got way too smudgy and I hated the glare.

I agree about the matte screen as well, my previous was glossy, they look good when they're off, but the fingerprints and dust arent worth it.

I'm about to upgrade to 4GB, has anyone noticed an increase in battery life with the increased memory, you know - less disk use = good.
