We service a lot of apple computers, most of them have Leopard, but there are a few that have previous versions of OS X. We have been mounting a network share and making a disk image of the hard drive using Carbon Copy Cloner. This process is taking a long time and sometimes freezes during the backup. Does anyone have a better solution to this problem?

If you use SuperDuper! you can do similar but do their smart backup so it only updates the changes. It speeds up the process quite a bit. There are other ways of doing it by using something like rsync and writing a bash script. Simple, free, and effective.
