Mac App Store (Not enough space, direct to secondary?)

I have a 2010 MBP with a 40gb SSD, and a 1TB secondary.

This works great since I install large files to the secondary, and the computer boots/launches apps very fast.

HOWEVER

I can't install anything on the Mac Store that is +3gb because I only have 7gb free on the SSD, and I can't figure out how to install directly to my secondary. Is this not possible? Is there a workaround??

I wouldn't call it skimping on the SSD... at the time I purchased it, the SSD I got was very expensive, and aside from this issue, 7gbs of space works fine, performance is fast, etc.
