M4 SSD causing problems?

So i built a computer back in november. Everything has been fine as of recently. It randomly shuts down unexpectedly. I've checked the temperatures of everything and nothing is overheating, and i've checked the windows system logs and nothing comes up fishy.

The odd thing however is when i turn it back the m4 isn't set as the main boot drive anymore, and its not even in the list of boot options. I have to dig through the menus to re add the drive to the boot menu then set it as priority. After that everything works fine and normal until it reboots again.

I'm not sure if the problem is with the motherboard or the drive.

Edit: the pc in my sig is not my current pc lol.
 
What are your system specs and what specific power supply?

8GB G skill ripjaws ram
Asus p8Z 68 motherboard
XFX Pro 550 watt psu
gigabyte 6950 Video card.

I believe I have found the error however. I never used to turn off my computer and i found out that there is a bug in the ssd firmware to where the drive crashes after 5100 or so hours of use and then reboots every hour until a power cycle is completed.

Correct a condition where an incorrect response to a SMART counter will cause the m4 drive to become unresponsive after 5184 hours of Power-on time. The drive will recover after a power cycle, however, this failure will repeat once per hour after reaching this point. The condition will allow the end user to successfully update firmware, and poses no risk to user or system data stored on the drive.

I'm trying that now. Hope it works.
 
5100 hours...that's about seven months of continuous up-time. Has it been that long since you've rebooted/power cycled?
 
Possibly. I was barely using it for a long time. Just using it as a media server for the rest of my house. But it seems unlikely that it would have that much uptime.

My symptoms match those of other ppl with this problem

Doesn't need to by continuous uptime with this M4 bug, just total uptime. Once you hit it, like the bugfix readme says, the PC will continue to BSOD and crash every hour or so until the firmware is updated.

Luckily, nothing is lost on the drive when this crash happens, and it goes away once the firmware is updated.
