Has anyone actually used their M1015 cards in IR mode? I'm going to build a typical ESXi + Solaris ZFS all-in-one storage server soon and would like to have ESXi on raided disks aswell.

I have a 8in2 2,5 hotswap cage populated with 6x80GB X25-M G2s and 2x 60GB Kingston V300s. Would it make any sense to create a raid1 of those kingstons and raid10 of intels, then install ESXi + Solaris on the raid1 and use raid10 as local datastore for other VMs? Can the M1015 handle all this?

I have not done with the IBM but would not expect problems.

Is it possible to create raid1 out of first 2 disks then have rest in passthrough?

No as passhtrough is pci-device-pass-through not disk pass-through.

Ah, forgot that. Should I create a separate raid1 for ESXi then another raid10 for VMs, or just one big raid10 for everything?

I'm going to test my luck and bump this once to see if there's anyone with a similar setup.
