Tried switching from Smoothwall to m0n0wall this week.

Only problem so far seems to be the more complicated port forwarding/nat rule setup process.
could anybody help me out with this?

I've been to m0n0's html docs and mailing list but its pretty thin on info.

Basically I need to setup Remote Desktop port forwarding for several PC's on my lan.

WAN Rule

Protocol----- SRC--------Port---------------Dest-------------Port
TCP/UDP-------*-----3000-3099------192.168.1.15-------3389

LAN

Protocol-----SRC---------Port----------------Dest------------Port
TCP/UDP------*-------3000-3099-----192.168.1.15--------3389

NAT Inbound
If------------Prot----------Ext Port---------------NAT IP-----------Int Port
WAN------TCP/UDP----3000-3099--------192.168.1.15----------3389

Can't get it to work, I've tried various combinations of the above.

Any ideas?

I have never used monowall, but first off, I don't think you need to forward all those 3000-3099 ports into that single box..you just need to forward port 3389 in to 192.168.1.15....if you are wanting to be able to remote desktop into other machines as well...you will have to change the port that remote desktop listens on...search in this forum for the thread about doing that...there were step by step instructions....and then you will need to forward each different port for each pc...IE 3388 for computer 1...3387 for computer 2...

or if you wanted another cheap way to do it...just create a forwarding rule from port say 3387 into computer 2 on port 3389 , then when you want to do remote desktop, you just specify that new port on your advanced settings of the remote desktop connection connector-thingy....im not really awake yet...so yeah sorry this is vague

you realize that you have not actually forwarded port 3389 correct? i mean, using those rules, you cannot open up remote desktop on a remote system and connect to your own network using port 3389, instead of 3389 you've forwarded a block of 100 ip's which are NOT 3389....

having said that, using your current rule, you should be able to pick any ip from 3000 to 3099 and connect to it using remote desktop and it should forward you to 192.168.1.15:3389

[edit]

basically just change 3000-3099 to 3389 and it should work fine with the default port.
