So I've been working with this free/busy calendar issue in Exchange/Outlook for over a month now, with very little luck. Today they got me to run a test and when it said we run in VMware they basically refused to continue supporting us. WTF? We PAID for the OS and the software, should not matter what the back end runs, I need support for the actual software, not the back end! It's like Ford saying they wont honor a warranty on a broken headlight because they don't support the company that built your garage. It makes no sense.

Everyone is virtualizing these days.... so how do most people deal with this then? I can see why they pull off this crap though, because they want you to buy hyper-V and use that instead of a competitor. It's BS really.

If there's nothing I can do about it, is there something I can do to hide the fact that it's running in a VM?

You need to escalate the matter to your TAM, if you have one.

If not, escalate via the help desk person you were working with; at the very least they should not refuse support but ask you to replicate it on physical hardware.

Yep using ESX. I tried to escalate to the manager, and he pretty much said the same thing. He said I should move it to physical. We don't have 20 grand for a server. They also mentioned about replicating on physical but again, not really easy to do when we don't have a spare server lying around, not to mention we'd have to recreate the whole environment.

In class we've been having serious issues with our labs. They are laggy to begin but they've been really bad lately. Official word from Microsoft is "We're considering changing the underlying platform".

aka, dumping their own product for something else. What does that tell you.

Like is this a class by MS themselves, and they are using HyperV and wanting to change? That's hilarious.
