Hey everyone can someone tell me what the difference in price would be if I got the ProKeys 88sx by itself compared to the 88ES with a midi controller? And can some one explain if I can use the 88ES by itself and use a program like Garageband to control the sound without the midi control?

I think you kind of answered your own question. The Prokeys 88sx looks to be a full-sized digital piano with its own sound bank. It can also function as a MIDI controller if you hook it up via USB to your computer. Very nice. The 88ES is also full-sized, but it only appears to be a MIDI controller. Doesn't look like it has any built-in sounds. If you want to be tethered to a computer all the time, the 88ES would be cheaper. The Prokeys 88sx would give you more options if you do some MIDI sequencing or composition with your computer but also perform w/o a computer. I'm a big M-Audio fan btw :)

If you're interested in a smaller 3-octave synthesizer that also is a good MIDI controller, you should look at the Alesis Micron. Another great instrument.

My only concern is the sound it will produce, I'm ok with it connected to my pc when I want to play, but can I make the 88ES sound like a stage/grand piano? If so how so with Logic pro 8?

Well, I've never really used Logic Pro 8 before, but I assume there's patches (sounds) within the program that can sound like a stage/grand piano. It sounds like you will use the keyboard for input and use software for sounds? The sounds produced by your setup will be entirely dictated by the software you use. I know ProTools is great, along with countless others. I like to use FL Studio 7 for all of my MIDI needs. Every program will have different sounds you can play around with to get what you're looking for. It's all just a matter of personal taste as far as what program you like.
