I had an amazing Yamaha 2.1 set-up from like 2010 to 2015 & I think their marketing called it "80 watts", but it was really a 40 watt sub w/ (2) 20 watt desktop satellites... but IDK anything about audio - except that the Yamaha sub thumped hard & the satellites were clear as day & right in my face & it was awesome. I think I paid $180 back in 2010, but IDK.

I currently have M-Audio AV 40 - 2.0's on my game rig & paid $150 / Sept 2015
~ M-Audio AV 40 Active 2-Way Desktop Monitor MA99006514000 B&H

This set-up is SOOOOOOO weak compared to my Yamaha's & I blew one of the 4" ers

Replaced @ $16.20 + $6.40 shipping = $22.60
~ I blame inconsistent youtube audio playlists while I am in the shower & maybe Seven Nation Army

*Please recommenced a 2.1 set up @ $200-ish - or the next best option.

THANKS GUYS!!!!!

See if you can listen to a pair of JBL LSR305, it'll be a 2.0 setup unless you buy a sub on the side. The LSR305 has great mids, IMO, does not need a sub. Depending on the quality of your soundcard, you may need a DAC due to interference.

I went from AV40s (still work great after 5 years or so) to BX5As. The BX5A aren't probably made anymore but the main reason I upgraded was to get a bigger driver. The BX5As will shake the table they sit on. I don't even have to use an EQ for them, they have enough high/lows right off the bat. Positioning them correctly is crucial. The only negative is you have to reach behind each monitor to turn them off.

So if I were you, look for a set of monitors that have a 5"+ driver. The BX5As I have produce more than enough bass that a subwoofer isn't needed.
