m.2 SSDs

Define "fastest". Do you want something that excels in synthetic benchmarks? Something that loads game levels quickly? Something that rocks at anything database related?

Something that loads game levels quick, moves files fast, and boots fast.

Depends on the benchmark :).

But in sequential speeds :
XP941>Plextor M.6>any other M.2 drive, as all others available in consumer market are SATA based.

That does not always mesh with benchmark scores. I mean a drive can have the fastest sequential benchmark but still load a game at 30MB/s because the game does not load GB sized files sequentially.

Nice, I'll be glad to plomp that 512GB SM951 in my VII Impact with M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 support. I'll probably will let it run "shotgun style" until Windows 10 arrives, since I'm still on Windows 7 and don't want to upgrade to 8.1 in the meanwhile.

Okay, I have an Asus Rampage IV Black Edition. What PCI-E->m.2x4 card would be good to use with a SM951.

Then don't fix on SM951 since 2015 will be the year of SSDs with PCIe 3.0 x4/NVMe in the M.2 and PCIe card format. It is hard to tell when exactly the SSDs will start to arrive but it Q1/Q2 seems to be a good bet for the first ones. Theoretical net maximum speed of these SSDs is 3.2 GB/s, big question is who will be the closest to it.

I don't really care that much about max continuous throughput towards my RAM, I care more about NVMe and the insanely low latencies that are possible and the direct PCIe 3.0 connection towards my CPU. While I won't be buying it the second it comes out, Samsung has been very solid in it's SSD products so I'm expecting this one to be no different.

Crucial and perhaps Intel will also be launching theirs next year, as you already indicated, but atleast the Samsung is getting tangible right now.
