M.2 expander

I don't think that has a PCIe switch make sure your motherboard supports bifurcation.
 
He's saying you can't just put a multi-M.2 adapter into any motherboard and expect it to work. The board has to support PCIe bifurcation unless the adapter has a switch/chip included (not common and MUCH more expensive). However, some X570 boards do support PCIe bifurcation, which is why many of the super high-end boards come with these type of adapters, but this is through using GPU lanes. (e.g. the MSI X570 Godlike comes with the M.2 Xpander-Z Gen4 which adds two M.2 drives; the Aorus X570 Master's manual specifically mentions a PCIEX16 Bifurcation setting for 4x4 as well)
