Lumia 920 battery tests

What I hate about the 920 is the fact to replace battery or get extended which is not around yet you have to take the dam phone apart and for me that's what I hate about my 920 I had til a few days ago I returned it for that reason alone. Other than that was great phone.
 
Yeah, kind of disappointing results there. The video playback is the most shockingly off - Galaxy SIII does 9 hours and the 920 only got 6 hours? That's a pretty huge difference I wouldn't have expected from two phones with similarly sized batteries and screens.

Considering they have different screen technologies (AMOLED vs TFT) as well as different underlying hardware, and not to mention WP might not be optimized yet, I am not really surprised. Looking at battery capacity + screen size as the only 2 factors is like comparing 2 cars with similar gas tank sizes and wheelbase and then wondering why one can go 500 miles on a tank vs 300 for the other.
 
I've experienced about 48 hours of battery with light - medium use. Sms, games, email, musc, ie. I charge it every other night.

The underlying hardware isn't *that* different. Or rather, it might not be that different (the US Galaxy S3 also has an S4 Krait just like the Lumia). The screens would have also affected web browsing tests yet the two had similar results for that one. And saying WP might not be optimized would just be a reason not to buy it - it still only supports Snapdragon, it'd be pathetic if they still haven't optimized for that yet.

AMOLED also isn't necessarily more efficient than TFT - one look at the Galaxy Nexus's results tells that tell clearly enough.
 
I think they have not fully optimised the power saving when you use the phone. Also the screen is quite bright all the time on auto and even if you select the lowest possible level.
 
There's a battery bug right now with the 920, it drains faster sometimes for no discernible reason. It'll get fixed, not worried.

All I'm saying is there's more than 2 factors that go into how long a device will last...just some quick differences between the two: quad vs dual core, 28nm fab vs 32nm, 1.4Ghz vs 1.5Ghz, (etc) are all things that could effect battery life.

Also as a WP8/L920 user there's a number of issues with the phone right now. It most certainly has issues, battery life/reporting being one of them, hence my statement about it not being optmized right now. I've personally seen my battery life at 100% remaining (for hrs) and 4 days standby, then the next day see it "drain" at 1% a minute and only have 7 hrs on a 100% charge.

That's true for the international S3, but the US Galaxy S3 is a dual-core 1.5ghz Snapdragon S4 MSM8960. The Lumia 920 is a dual-core 1.5ghz Snapdragon S4 MSM8960. Exactly same SoC in the exact same configuration.

So depends on which S3 they tested with (side note, fuck you Samsung for making this shit way too complicated)
